Patient Responsibilities Partnering With Us for Safe & Effective Care

At St. Mary's Hospital, patients and their families play an important role in achieving safe and effective healthcare. We encourage every patient to actively participate in their care by fulfilling the following responsibilities:

Patient Responsibilities at St. Mary's Hospital

Provide complete and accurate information about your present illness, past medical history, previous hospitalizations, surgeries, allergies, medications, herbal products, vitamins, and any other health-related information that may help your healthcare team provide safe and appropriate care.

2. Ask Questions and Participate in Your Care

Ask questions whenever you do not understand your diagnosis, treatment plan, medications, or any instructions given by your doctor or healthcare team. Inform your doctor if you anticipate difficulty in following the prescribed treatment or if you are considering alternative therapies.

3. Follow Hospital Rules and Regulations

Observe and comply with all hospital policies and regulations to help maintain a safe, clean, and respectful environment for everyone.

4. Follow the No-Smoking Policy

Smoking and the use of tobacco products are strictly prohibited within the hospital premises to ensure a healthy and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

5. Respect Visitor Policies

Follow the hospital's visitor guidelines, including visiting hours and visitor limits. Be considerate of noise levels, privacy, infection control measures, and the comfort of other patients.

6. Fulfil Financial Responsibilities

Pay hospital bills and other applicable charges promptly in accordance with the hospital's billing policies. If applicable, discuss payment arrangements with the billing department.

7. Keep Appointments

Arrive on time for your scheduled appointments, investigations, and procedures. If you are unable to attend, inform the hospital as early as possible to reschedule or cancel your appointment.

8. Provide Insurance Information

Provide complete and accurate insurance details and cooperate with the hospital and insurance provider to facilitate claim processing and payment, where applicable.

9. Inform the Healthcare Team About Changes in Your Condition

Notify your doctor or nurse immediately if your condition worsens, new symptoms develop, or your recovery is not progressing as expected.

10. Follow the Prescribed Treatment Plan

Take medications only as prescribed by your treating doctor or healthcare professional. Follow all treatment instructions, attend follow-up appointments, and seek clarification whenever needed to ensure safe and effective care.

We appreciate your cooperation and partnership in helping us provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality healthcare for all.
