Dr. T. M. Abraham, the visionary founder of St. Mary's Hospital, Thodupuzha, was one of Central Kerala's most respected physicians. For over six decades, he devoted his life to delivering compassionate, ethical, and affordable healthcare, earning the trust, admiration, and gratitude of generations of patients and their families.
After graduating from Andhra Medical College, Visakhapatnam, in 1954, Dr. Abraham further honed his clinical expertise at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore. Driven by a deep commitment to serving his community, he returned to Thodupuzha with a clear vision to establish a healthcare institution where clinical excellence would be guided by compassion, integrity, and a genuine commitment to patient well-being. This vision, conceived during his student years, would later become the foundation of St. Mary's Hospital.
His journey began with a modest clinic in 1959, which gradually evolved into St. Mary's Hospital in 1999. Guided by the enduring philosophy of “Care with Care,” Dr. Abraham ensured that every patient received dignified and compassionate treatment, irrespective of financial circumstances. His unwavering commitment to ethical medical practice, clinical excellence, and patient-centred care transformed the hospital into one of the region's most trusted healthcare institutions.
Beyond his outstanding clinical accomplishments, Dr. Abraham was widely admired for his humility, integrity, and selfless dedication to his patients. Dr. T. M. Abraham passed away on 4 June 2024, leaving behind an extraordinary legacy of service, humanity, and visionary leadership. Today, as St. Mary's Hospital continues its mission of providing safe, high-quality, and affordable healthcare, his ideals remain its guiding light. His life stands as a timeless testament to selfless service, compassionate leadership, and the enduring promise of “Care with Care.”
